Federal Hill is a picturesque area in South Baltimore named for the hill at the northern edge of the neighborhood and dates back to the 18th century. In fact, many of the buildings are included in the Federal Hill Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1970. The neighborhood gets its name from the prominent hill that is seen from the Inner Harbor area, to which the neighborhood forms the physical southern boundary.
Housing stock includes luxury condos, historic brick row homes, new-construction townhomes as well as apartments. While the area may be designated as a federal historic district with strict preservation and requirements, most of the residences have been rehabbed within the past few decades.
Federal Hill residents benefit from easy commutes by either car or the public transportation options offered.
